Remember the winter!

I know, is almost summer time here in Ohio, but just wait 5 minutes!

Metronome House

I made this video of the Metronome House a long time ago in media terms. It was a cold night in February, 2009!

German Village Haus und Garten Tour 2009

New Soundslide
Sometimes you don't get to be in a situation to make breaking news photographs, like this home and garden tour assignment. You can still make this challenging by adding sound. I think the audio of the home owners, the description of their home and the love they have for them helps make OK photos a bigger part of the story.

Photographing babies and rescuing turtles- the story of a photojournalist

You know there has to be more to this story, and there is.

1- The assignment:
Photograph mother, baby and grandmother.
The reason: Baby was delivered by grandmother in the hospital's garage parking lot!
Result: a nice simple little photo of the 3 in the Dispatch A-01!

2- The turtle.
It was attempting to cross a country road as I drove away from my assignment and it was not going to make it to the other side.
New assignment: Save the turtle!!!!
Solution: Stop traffic, take turtle away from the road.

New Problem: What to do with turtle? I cannot trust it will just stay away from the road.
New assignment: Take turtle to a save location.
Solution: Use google GPS on blackberry to search for a large pond to release turtle. Love that technology!

--Unfortunately for the turtle the pond that I choose for it was over 10 miles away from where it met me, but I am sure that it will make new friends there!!

Great Project

So some of my posts are not in the right order since I changed blogs, but this project needs to be here.

This is the type of project that I love to do (and most multimedia photojournalists) long documentary projects. As I was gathering all the pieces for the post-production, I noticed that it was going to be hard to just to have audio come in with no intro. Usually, I think about using a narrator, but in this case the story line needed it. Enter the reporter!

Not only did the Dispatch have us the time to work on this project, great space inside for a dynamic layout, but also the cover.
